Someone please step forward
Well, that sucked. My visions of Edmonds and/or Rolen coming through with the big hit not only did not reach fruition, but were made worse by their failures to do so in actual defining situations. Aaaarggghh. Crap! That was tough to watch. CC did his thing, but now the Nation is left paranoid about not only Game 7, but whether young Wainwright will even get a chance to befuddle. Well, Game 7 opens up all options. I want TLR to utilize this to the extreme. I want Suppan to get his due time, but the leash has to be very short with this everything-goes scenario. Jose Oquendo needs to warm up. Bruce Sutter should be on call. Will Leitch, the mastermind behind Deadspin.com, is representing Redbird Nation live in person from Scum Stadium, so please check in with his nationally renowned web site to gain genuine insight on this craziness. He is a good dude, and shares every single joy and pain that we all experience in these memorable circumstances ... I think Chris Duncan may strike the deciding blow in this deal ... Big questions: Will Rolen play? Will Taguchi start in LF? Spiezio? Let's get those nerds! Or, at least Oliver Perez. Please?
I though for sure the Cards were done after: Endy. Fucking. Chavez. But if Yaddy Molina is going to hit one out AND Carlos Beltran is going to watch a season-ending curveball go by with the bases loaded, well that is how you get a 83-win team in the World Series. But if you're going to have to put a mediocrity in the big dance against a wild-card team, it might as well be the Cardinals, after last season.
You were much in my thoughts as I watched that game last night, particularly after The Catch and during the bottom of the ninth. Wainwright threw about three curveballs that saved him. One less and it might be the Mets in the Series.
